The 2025 Subaru BRZ near Santa Fe NM can combine with experience and skill to make for a powerful drive

As we reach the end of another year, it’s amazing to think that I’ve been racing cars for almost forty years. No, I wasn’t born into a racing family and had to wait until I was well past college and earning enough money to start. But the driving skills that I’ve learned, together with the judgement of when and how to race effectively still serve me well. And while I don’t have the privilege of living in Santa Fe, NM I’ve visited often enough to know and appreciate the charms of this historic town. And of all the cars, SUVs and EVs available in the 2025 Subaru line, there’s only one I would pick to drive in and around Santa Fe, NM. The 2025 Subaru BRZ near Santa Fe NM, whether in Premium, Premium Plus, BRZ tS and Purple Special Edition would make for a delightful ride around this magical town. But why? Some might automatically point towards other more practical choices, but if we start by thinking about the perfect sportscar for a seasoned driver exploring Santa Fe, NM the BRZ has to be it. Sure many fans of the 2025 Subaru WRX would claim the mighty turbo car would be more fun. They’d be right, if horsepower were the only criteria in this high-altitude city.

2025 Subaru BRZ near Santa Fe NM VS the Subaru WRX

But starting with those classic sportscar lines are what I find separates the 2025 Subaru BRZ near Santa Fe NM from the WRX. With daringly low clearance and sleek lines from front-to-back of the sleek BRZ makes you ache to run your hand over and around it. From the elegant radiator opening and cut-back headlights at the front are a slew of gorgeous details that could’ve flowed directly from the shops of Ferrari or Giugiaro Italdesign. Wide, coke-bottle shaped rear fenders give the BRZ an unmistakable aggressive look, while the LED rear lights and sculpted rear end add a modern flare to the 2025 Subaru BRZ near Santa Fe NM. Together with details like the aero-shaped fenders, beautifully shaped A-pillars and sloping roofline leave no doubt this is a bona fide sportscar. But duck your head as you sit down in the low slung BRZ and the hit parade continues. From the leather lined steering wheel, ergonomically shaped to keep your hands at 9 and 3 o’clock and you realize how seriously fun this car is designed. The cloth or leather sport seats fit your body to give maximum feedback to how the car is moving. Race drivers know to use the small adjustments to find the perfect driving position, with elbows slightly bent to reach the wheel and feet comfortably reaching each the pedals. You’ll also find the BRZ with a rarity in today’s auto market: a six-speed manual transmission with a Torsen rear differential. Both brake and throttle pedals are well-positioned to make heel-toe shifting and rev matching a snap. Putting the BRZ in gear is a sensual exercise, as solid and well-defined gates come readily to hand. Certainly, there’s also a six-speed automatic available, but the amount of control with the manual make it my choice with the BRZ. The cockpit also puts a digital tach and speedo directly in front, with an 8.0” multimedia center screen, to add Subaru’s modern tech and gadgets to a classic cockpit.

One element unique to the Subaru BRZ is Subaru’s direct-injected 2.4-liter boxer engine offers a low center of gravity that makes it one of the best handling sportcars around. The FA24 engine was cleverly positioned to provide near 50-50 weight distribution without resorting to a mid-engine design. And while a rated 228-HP output is modest, the BRZ sips premium unleaded at an EPA-rated 21 city, 27 highway and 25 MPG combined. Heat, upkeep and complexity of a turbo engine are avoided. One final advantage the BRZ holds has to do with the beautiful 18” alloy wheels and tires. They are great on dry roads and warmer weather, but buying a set of winter wheels mounted radial snow tires gives Santa Fe BRZ pilots the opportunity to use a rubber compound and tread pattern specifically designed for winter. For 2025, Subaru offers the ability to switch from different sets of tires back-and-forth to monitor real-time tire pressures. So whether you’re driving up to Taos for a weekend ski trip, or driving down Canyon road to check out artwork, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) will always be available. The 2025 Subaru BRZ line ranges from $31,095 for the BRZ Premium up to $36,245 for the BRZ tS (which offers even more functional driving options), but whatever model you choose, you’ll likely find the biggest selection at the largest dealership in the area. For 2025, that means Santa Fe BRZ fans can check out the availability of 2025 Subaru BRZs near Santa Fe NM at the Fiesta Subaru dealership in Albuquerque at 7100 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110!
