The 2023 Subaru Legacy in Albuquerque NM Checks All the Boxes for a Great Family Sedan

As more and more automakers retire their sedan offerings, all-wheel drive models are getting even harder to find. However, the 2023 Subaru Legacy in Albuquerque NM is a non-conformist in this trend as it comes back for the new model year with a redesigned front end, technology and driver-assist improvements, and expanded accessibility for the turbocharged engine. Subaru’s midsize family car carries on with a spacious and comfortable cabin, an ample range of safety technology, and AWD as standard equipment across all trims.  Although it competes with some very popular midsize sedans, only the Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry offer AWD, and it comes as an added cost.

A Fresher Look

On the outside, the 2023 Legacy is mostly unchanged except for its new front end which received updated styling that’s sharper than before. The grille is wider and highlighted by a trendy chrome-trim bar that makes a distinct and sporty on-road appearance. The front bumper is revamped, and the LED headlights and fog lights have been redesigned and styled around the flowing modern style that turns heads. The rear end is about the same, with dual exhaust outlets, triangular taillights, and a beefy rear bumper with sturdy body cladding at the bottom. A rear deck spoiler is available to customize your Legacy.

The mid-level Legacy Sport gets the trunk spoiler, gray 18-inch alloy wheels, and a red accent on the grille as standard equipment. A new 360-degree heated steering wheel comes standard on the Sport and Touring XT models.

The luxurious and technologically advanced interior has been more finely tuned and adds feature-based changes as well. The already excellent EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology package now comes with a wider-angle EyeSight camera system and new Automatic Emergency Steering Assist. Connectivity has never been easier with now wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are also new USB-C ports in the cabin, and the lineup of Legacy trim levels has received some thrilling performance-based changes.

2023 Subaru Legacy in Albuquerque NM: Specs and Performance

It’s easily forgotten that the Legacy pioneered Subaru’s exploits in rally racing because the WRX was created and took over as the champion of rally-racing. Even so, the revised 2023 Legacy configurations combine that racing excitement with the classic Legacy practicality, comfort, and technology advantages.

In particular, the Legacy Sport trim boosts the “sport” factor by offering the previously high-end 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder BOXER engine at a mid-level price. For 2023, the Legacy Sport delivers 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, cruises on a sport-tuned suspension, and stands out with the design elements mentioned above.

Of course, every model continues to have AWD as standard, and you’ll get the 260 hp turbo in the Limited XT and Touring XT trims as well. Surprisingly, this high-performance engine doesn’t compromise efficiency for power; it still delivers an EPA-estimated 24/32 city/highway MPG in the models listed.

Lower trims, such as the entry-level Premium will still come with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder BOXER engine that puts out 182 hp/176 lb-ft of torque. Last year, these models offered an EPA rating of 27/35 MPG for city/highway.
